Our story

How did Nor-Cal Maintenance get started?

With a window. In 1984 Dave Stankas needed bus money to get home from school, so he knocked on doors in Healdsburg. A woman offered him five dollars to wash her windows, and when he went back the next day offering the same, he says everyone kept saying yes.

Window washing led to gutter cleaning, and gutter cleaning led to fixing leaks and replacing parts. In 1999 Dave got his California contractor’s license and set up his own company, first called Executive Home Improvement. As it grew, he renamed it NorCal Maintenance, a name that said what the crews specialize in.

What is an estimate with Nor-Cal Maintenance like?

Low pressure, by design. Dave describes it this way: the visit is for gathering information and answering questions, not for selling. After the walk-around the team goes back and writes the proposal, so you decide on your own time. Reviewers mention getting a verbal summary first and a written estimate after.
