About Tiburon
Why do views matter so much in Tiburon?
Because the town wrote them into its rules. Tiburon created special ordinances to protect trees and to protect views, and its Design Review Board weighs whether a project would block a neighbor’s outlook. When a house is designed around the water and Angel Island, clean glass is how you actually see them.
Fire rules on the peninsula come from the Tiburon Fire Protection District. Fire Safe Marin describes the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority as covering all of Marin except Belvedere and Tiburon, so the district’s own vegetation management program is the one that applies. It describes 100 feet of defensible space in three zones, asks owners to remove dead leaves and pine needles from the yard, roof and rain gutters within 30 feet of the house, and wants fallen leaves cleared from the first five feet often during fire season.
CAL FIRE’s 2025 hazard map layer shows moderate and some high hazard areas inside town limits. The district says properties in mapped zones and in the locally adopted wildland urban interface face added building, landscaping and vegetation requirements, and it posts its WUI map and an address lookup on its hazard zone page.

Design review and fire rules. Tiburon’s Site Plan and Architectural Review covers exterior changes, with the Director handling minor alterations, and views are part of what the Design Review Board weighs. Tiburon Fire asks owners to keep roofs and rain gutters clear of dead leaves and needles. Routine cleaning isn’t an exterior change, but replacing windows can be.

Can you reach tall glass walls and upper windows?
Yes. Our crews work from extension ladders on two-story houses and tall walls of glass, and we clean commercial lobbies with tall windows as well. On a hillside lot, the estimate visit is when we look at where ladders can stand safely and how to reach each pane.
Is Tiburon covered by the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority?
No. Fire Safe Marin describes the authority as representing all of Marin except Belvedere and Tiburon, so its grants and evaluations don’t apply here.
