A Santa Rosa Gutter Company on Banyan Street
Our main office is in Coffey Park, the neighborhood the Tubbs Fire burned through in 2017. From here the crew cleans, repairs and installs gutters, fits gutter guards and clears roof moss across Santa Rosa, from the old blocks near Railroad Square to Fountaingrove, Skyhawk and Oakmont.

Santa Rosa, CA
Is there a gutter company with an office in Santa Rosa?
Yes. Nor-Cal Maintenance runs its main office from 3480 Banyan Street in Coffey Park, about 4.5 road miles from Santa Rosa City Hall. Dave Stankas and his crew clean and repair gutters, install new ones and fit gutter guards, and they also clear roof moss, pressure wash and wash windows across the city.
Santa Rosa is a city of about 177,000 people and 71,000 homes, and the Census Bureau’s latest five-year estimates put the median home’s construction year at 1980. Half of the city’s housing went up before 1980, and one home in five dates from the 1970s alone, so a lot of local roofs and gutters have been through decades of wet winters. The 2017 Tubbs Fire changed the map too: it destroyed about 2,900 homes in Santa Rosa, roughly five percent of the city’s housing, much of it in Coffey Park and Fountaingrove. Older house or newer one, the job before the rains is the same: gutter cleaning, then a look at what needs fixing.
Housing: U.S. Census ACS 5-year estimates. Rainfall: NOAA 1991–2020 normals for the nearest station. Distance is approximate road miles.

(707) 940-7875“I own a rain gutter company and refer a lot of rain gutter related maintenance and repair jobs to them (work that we don't do). I refer people without reservation because I know David will take good care of them.”
“I'm relieved to finally have high-quality gutter covers that will protect my home from embers during wildfires, but at a much more reasonable price than major brand names.”
About Santa Rosa
When does Santa Rosa's rain arrive?
Mostly between November and March. NOAA’s 1991-2020 normals for the Santa Rosa co-op station add up to 31.53 inches a year, and those five months bring about 83% of it. Single storms can be enormous: the station’s October 24, 2021 reading was 7.83 inches, during an atmospheric river.
The city’s tree ordinance is a good guide to what hangs over local roofs. It treats valley oaks, blue oaks and buckeyes as heritage trees once their trunks reach 6 inches across, live and black oaks at 18 inches, and redwoods, bay trees and Douglas firs at 24 inches. Those are the trees that fill gutters every fall, and Dave has said that redwood needles, oak leaves and bay leaves are acidic enough to rot a gutter out when they sit in it.
The Tubbs Fire reached the city limits early on October 9, 2017, came in through Fountaingrove and burned into Coffey Park, where an estimated 1,300 structures, mostly homes, were lost. The city’s rules have grown since. A Vegetation Management Ordinance approved in January 2024 requires defensible space on every property in the Wildland Urban Interface area, about 9,000 parcels, and the fire department planned its inspections by neighborhood: Fountaingrove in 2025, Oakmont in 2026, then Skyhawk and Bennett Valley in 2027 (Santa Rosa Fire Department FAQs).
The office sits in ZIP code 95403. The city as a whole spans ZIP codes 95401 through 95407 and 95409, with US 101 dividing east from west and Highway 12 dividing north from south.
Local rules
Which city and state rules apply to roofs and gutters in Santa Rosa?
Wildfire rules, and historic review in older neighborhoods. State law, Public Resources Code 4291, calls for leaves and needles to be cleared off roofs and out of gutters where defensible space applies, and Santa Rosa requires defensible space on every Wildland Urban Interface parcel. Preservation District homes may need a Landmark Alteration Permit for exterior changes.
Santa Rosa checklist before the crew arrives
- Check whether your address is inside the Wildland Urban Interface area on the fire department’s Wildfire Ready page. About 9,000 parcels are.
- In the WUI, the ordinance limits stringy, fibrous or red-dyed mulch within 30 feet of the house, and the fire department suggests rock, gravel, pavers or bare soil in the first 5 feet.
- Homes that are city Landmarks or sit in a Preservation District can need a Landmark Alteration Permit for exterior work. Planning answers at (707) 543-3200.
- The fire department’s WUI Fuel Modification grant funds vent screening and roof gutter guards on qualifying homes. Applications closed in August 2023, and the second phase of work is expected in 2026 or early 2027.
- Ask the city’s Building Division about permits for new gutters. Its rule is that a building permit is needed unless the California Building Code exempts the work.
Services in Santa Rosa
What do Santa Rosa homeowners usually call us for?
Gutter cleaning in the fall comes first, since November through March brings most of the rain. Gutter guards suit homes under oaks, redwoods or bay trees and owners in the WUI who want embers kept out. Older houses may need repairs or new seamless gutters, and shaded roofs need roof moss removal.
FAQ
Santa Rosa Questions
Why did Santa Rosa redraw its Wildland Urban Interface area?
Because the state’s hazard maps changed. CAL FIRE released new Local Responsibility Area fire hazard maps for Santa Rosa in February 2025, and the fire department used them to redraw a WUI boundary first adopted in 2009, adding areas newly mapped High or Very High. It mailed 3,893 postcards to owners being added to or removed from the WUI.
Do gutter guards help keep embers out?
They keep out the dry leaves and needles that embers can light, and Santa Rosa’s WUI grant has funded roof gutter guards along with vent screening. The right guard depends on the debris your trees drop and the pitch of your roof. Dave carries 27 types of gutter covers because no single cover fits every house.
How hard can it rain in Santa Rosa?
Very hard for a few days at a time. The Santa Rosa co-op station recorded 9.06 inches from February 25 to 27, 2019, and Santa Rosa Creek at Willowside Road hit 8,100 cubic feet per second on February 26, the highest peak in its 1999-2024 record. From late December 2022 to mid-January 2023 the station logged more than 18 inches.
Are the Santa Rosa and Windsor offices the same company?
Yes. Both are Nor-Cal Maintenance, family-owned and run by Dave Stankas, and each office has its own Google Business Profile. The Santa Rosa office on Banyan Street uses the main line, (707) 940-7875. The Windsor office is at 7734 Bell Road, and its number, (707) 321-8477, is Dave’s long-time business line.
