How often do gutters under Windsor's oaks need clearing?
Twice a year suits most Windsor houses with trees nearby. Once in late fall, after the oaks have dropped and before the heavy rain of December through February, and once in late spring, ahead of the Sonoma County Fire District’s June 1 deadline for vegetation work, which lists clean gutters and roofs. We flush the downspouts both times.
Windsor’s rain comes in a narrow window. NOAA’s 1991-2020 normals for the Sonoma County Airport station, just south of town, put 28.26 of the year’s 33.78 inches between November and March, and half an inch in total from June through September. Leaves that settle in a gutter over the dry months meet the first big storm head on, and a plugged downspout spills that water down the siding and against the foundation. Gutter cleaning in the fall, with a second pass in spring, keeps the water moving.

Which trees fill Windsor gutters?
Oaks, first of all. The Town’s history describes pre-settlement Windsor as a green valley with sturdy oak trees, and most trails in Shiloh Ranch Regional Park, on the town’s southeast edge, wind through oak woodland. Dave counts oak and bay leaves among the acidic debris that rots a gutter out quickly when it sits wet.
Fire season sets the second deadline. The Sonoma County Fire District, which covers Windsor, wants vegetation work finished by June 1, and its reminder puts cleaning gutters and roofs right next to cutting dry grass and limbing up trees. The district’s Zone 0 guidance focuses on the first five feet around a house, where embers landing in dry leaves can ignite material against the walls. Much of Shiloh Ranch Regional Park burned in the 2017 Tubbs Fire.
Storms here can drop more than a month’s rain in a day. The airport station recorded 6.09 inches on October 24, 2021, during an early-season atmospheric river, more than three times its normal for all of October, and 18.70 inches fell there between December 26, 2022 and January 16, 2023. A gutter still holding last month’s leaves has nowhere to send that water.
From a customer
“The crew did a great job of cleaning our gutters. I was so happy not to go on the roof myself. They cleaned up the area around the house before they left and let me know the conditions that they found.”
FAQ
Windsor gutter cleaning FAQ
Do you clean the downspouts too?
Yes. Downspout flushing is part of our gutter cleaning, because a gutter that looks clear on top can still back up behind a plugged downspout. We make sure water runs through before we leave and point out anything that needs fixing, such as a leaking seam or a gutter pulling away from the fascia.
Can you clean gutters on a two-story Windsor house?
Yes. One reviewer wrote that we cleaned some gutters that were very high and that the workers take safety seriously, and another has had us cleaning a steeply pitched roof for eight years. If the roof also has skylights or solar panels, we can clean those on the same visit.
Are gutter guards a better choice than regular cleanings?
Guards cut down how much debris gets into the gutter, which matters most under oaks. Leaves can still collect on the roof and in the valleys, so roof cleanups keep their place. We carry 27 types of gutter covers to match the trees over your roof, and if your gutters are past saving, see new gutters in Windsor.
Do you clean gutters for Windsor HOAs and apartment complexes?
Yes. Along with homeowners, we work for apartments, HOAs, schools and businesses. One reviewer wrote that we cleaned the gutters of a 101-unit complex and left it clean of gutter debris, with workers who were respectful to owners. A property manager can ask us to walk the whole property and send one proposal.
