Gutter cleaning
What's included in a gutter cleaning?
Every run is cleared by hand, and each downspout is flushed so water moves all the way through. While the crew is up there, they look for loose sections, leaking seams and damaged covers, then tell you what they found. Leaves and muck that land on the ground below get picked up before anyone leaves.
Gutter cleanings come with a 30-day guarantee on gutter clogs. Ask for the details when you book.

Good to know
When should Sonoma County gutters be cleaned?
In fall, once most of the leaves are down and before the steady winter rain. Homes under redwoods, pines or oaks often need a second pass later in the season, because those trees keep shedding. A spring or early summer visit also makes sense ahead of fire season, when dry needles sitting in a gutter are a hazard.
Before the crew arrives
- Move cars, bikes and patio furniture away from the walls under the gutters.
- Unlock side gates and keep dogs inside while the crew works.
- Tell us about any downspout that backs up or any corner that pours over in rain.
- Point out skylights, solar panels or delicate plants near the roof edge.
- Want the roof done too? Ask about roof cleaning when you call (707) 940-7875.
The rules
Does California law say anything about leaves on the roof?
Yes. In the state responsibility area, Public Resources Code 4291 requires owners to “maintain the roof of a structure free of leaves, needles, or other vegetative materials.” Government Code 51182 applies the same rule in very high fire hazard severity zones that cities and counties designate. CAL FIRE’s guidance adds gutters to that list.
PRC 4291California’s roof-clearing rule for homes in the state responsibility area
CAL FIRE’s defensible space page tells homeowners to “remove dead leaves and pine needles from your yard, roof, and gutters” in Zone 1, the first 30 feet around the house, and to check roofs and gutters in Zone 0, the five feet closest to it. Read Public Resources Code 4291 and Government Code 51182 on the state’s legislative site, and ask your local fire agency which one covers your address.

From a customer
What do customers say about our gutter cleaning?
Annie D. had us clean the gutters of a 101-unit complex and wrote that the crew “left the complex clean of gutter debris” and was respectful to owners. On a single home, Nancy T. was “so happy not to go on the roof myself,” and Paul D. noted the crew made sure everything worked before leaving.
“We used Nor-Cal Maintenance to clean the gutters of a 101 unit complex. They did a great job and left the complex clean of gutter debris.”
Silver members get their gutters cleaned twice a year on a set schedule, so nobody has to remember before the rains.
FAQ
Gutter Cleaning Questions from Santa Rosa and Windsor
How often do gutters under redwoods need cleaning?
Often more than once a year. Nina M., who lives in the redwoods, wrote that “our roof and gutters fill to the brim with leaves and needles,” and the household is now in its third year of regular visits. Plan on a fall cleaning at minimum, and add another if the gutters fill again before spring.
Can you clean gutters on a two-story or hillside house?
Yes. High gutters and sloped lots are everyday work for the crew. Lisa D. wrote that we cleaned some gutters that were “very high” and that the workers “take safety seriously.” If part of the house sits over a steep bank or a deck, mention it when you call so the crew can plan the setup.
Do you clean gutters for apartment complexes and HOAs?
Yes. Apartment owners, HOAs, wineries, schools and municipalities are all customers. A larger property starts with a site visit and a written proposal that lists the buildings and gutters included. Other exterior work can ride along: the 101-unit job in Annie D.’s review also got a soft wash on one building.
Should the roof be cleared along with the gutters?
Often, yes. Leaves and needles left on the roof end up in the gutters with the next rain, and in fire season they’re fuel at the roof edge. Teresa H. has had us cleaning a steeply pitched roof for eight years and wrote that it “always looks great and feels safe,” red-flag days included. Ask about roof cleaning when you book.
What happens to ash and burned leaves after a fire?
They’re cleared out by hand like any other debris, and the downspouts are flushed so nothing is left to wash down in the first rain. Chelsy M. put it this way: “Could not believe the amount of burned leaves from recent fires and also how wonderful they look now.”
