Gutter Guards for Geyserville Homes in a Very High Fire Zone
The village center along Geyserville Avenue is mapped Very High on CAL FIRE’s 2025 hazard map, and oaks grow all around it. A guard that keeps dry leaves out of the gutter helps on both counts.

Which gutter guard makes sense under Geyserville's oaks?
One matched to the debris and the roof. Dave’s rule is that the type of debris matters most, and around Geyserville that’s mostly broad oak leaves, with needles wherever pines or firs stand nearby. Roof pitch comes second, because water can overshoot the wrong cover. We carry 27 types, so the choice fits the house.
Fire history sits close to Geyserville. The Kincade Fire started in 2019 about nine miles northeast of town, and the Pocket Fire in 2017 began off Pocket Ranch Road, roughly four miles north. CAL FIRE’s home hardening advice includes keeping plant debris out of gutters and using noncombustible gutter covers, and with that history nearby the advice is hard to ignore. Our gutter guards page explains the cover types; this page is about picking one for a house here.

Does the fire hazard map include downtown Geyserville?
Yes. On CAL FIRE’s February 2025 local responsibility area map, the village center, including the post office on School House Lane and the fire station on Geyserville Avenue, falls in the Very High zone. Across the census area about 30 percent is Very High, and state-mapped zones on the western hills add roughly 9 percent more.
Permit Sonoma says those maps became official for unincorporated land 120 days after their February 24, 2025 release, and that the Very High zone rules apply regardless of which fire district covers the parcel (county notice). The Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection District, based on Geyserville Avenue, sends residents from its structural hardening page to CAL FIRE’s Wildfire Home Retrofit Guide, which has a section on rain gutters.
A guard doesn’t end the upkeep, and we’ll say so at the estimate. Debris can still rest on top of some covers, so a look before summer is part of owning one. What changes is that the gutter itself stays empty through the oak drop and the winter rain. Misti W. wrote that she was relieved to finally have covers “that will protect my home from embers during wildfires,” and our ember-resistant gutter guards guide goes into materials.
FAQ
Geyserville gutter guards FAQ
Do gutter guards keep oak leaves out completely?
They keep the leaves out of the gutter, which is the part that matters for drainage. Some leaves will rest on top of the cover until wind or rain moves them, more so on low-slope roofs. That’s why roof pitch is part of choosing the guard, and why we look at the trees overhead before recommending one.
Are metal gutter guards required in Geyserville?
Not for every house. California’s 2025 wildland-urban interface code sets gutter rules for new construction, and CAL FIRE’s retrofit advice favors noncombustible covers. On an existing home a guard is your choice. Brands we install include Gutterglove and Amerimax, and the written proposal names the exact product.
Can guards go on gutters that are already old?
If the gutters are sound, yes. A guard on a leaking or sagging gutter just covers the problem, so we check seams, hangers and slope first. Kristin B. wrote that the crew came “to clean and fix the gutters and install gutter guards” on one visit, which is often how it goes.
Will a guard help with fire district inspections?
It keeps leaves from building up in the gutter between cleanings, and the county’s inspection form lists leaves and needles in gutters as a hazard. It isn’t a substitute for the rest of defensible space, though. Request an inspection from the Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection District at (707) 857-4373.
