Which company handles gutter replacement in San Anselmo?
Nor-Cal Maintenance does. We serve San Anselmo from our Santa Rosa office, about 43 road miles north of Town Hall, and install gutters and downspouts under California contractor license #772419 in the C-61/D24 metal products class. Each job begins with a visit to the house, and a written proposal follows it.
San Anselmo’s housing is older than San Rafael’s or Tiburon’s. By the Census Bureau’s 2020-2024 estimates, the median home went up in 1955, more than a quarter of the town’s 5,498 housing units date from 1939 or earlier, and about 77% are detached single-family houses. On a house that old, the gutters may have been patched or rehung more than once, so a new system starts with a close look at the fascia and the roof edge it hangs from. Our gutter installation page covers the work itself, and seamless gutters are one option. This page is about getting it right on a San Anselmo lot.

Where can roof water go on a San Anselmo property?
Onto ground that can soak the water up or carry it off, well away from the foundation. The Town says San Anselmo and Sleepy Hollow creeks flood periodically because of the Ross Valley’s clay soils, topography and climate, made worse by development and paved surfaces. Clay takes water slowly, so each outlet needs a plan.
That note comes from the Town’s flooding and storm resources page, which also asks owners to look up their property on MarinMap or FEMA’s flood maps and to get a permit before they build. Construction in the floodplain falls under San Anselmo Code 7.11, and the Building Department issues floodplain development permits. If your house sits in the Flatlands, the low southern and western part of town where many homes are raised, ask the permit technicians at (415) 258-4616 whether any part of a gutter and downspout job touches those rules.
Looks and fire rules come next. A third-party copy of the Town’s design review article says that in R-1-H zones all exterior modifications, paint colors and finishes included, go through design review, while repairs that leave the exterior unchanged are exempt, so settle a new gutter color or profile with the Planning Department first. Ross Valley Fire’s WUI map page shows whether a parcel falls in the mapped wildland urban interface, and CAL FIRE’s current hazard layer shows only moderate zones inside the town boundary.
FAQ
San Anselmo gutter installation FAQ
Does the wildfire code affect what new gutters are made of?
It can. For buildings the California Wildland-Urban Interface Code covers, gutters and downspouts must be noncombustible, and the gutters need a way to keep leaves and debris from collecting. San Anselmo has adopted the 2025 edition with local amendments. Ross Valley Fire’s Prevention Bureau, (415) 258-4686, ext. 5, can tell you whether your address falls under it.
What if the fascia behind the old gutters has rotted?
Then it gets dealt with before anything new goes up, because a gutter can only be as solid as the board it’s fastened to. Small repairs to soft fascia are part of our dry rot repair work. Ryan S. wrote on Google that Dave and his worker fabricated a rain gutter and that Dave “mitigated some dry rot” as well.
Can gutter guards go on with the new gutters?
Yes, and it’s the easiest moment for it, with nothing in the new gutters yet and the ladders already up. Lizbeth H. wrote that Nor-Cal replaced worn-out gutters “to a superior product along with protecting them with screen covers.” Our San Anselmo gutter guard page explains how we pick a cover for oak and eucalyptus litter.
How does an estimate work when you're coming from Santa Rosa?
Just as it does closer to home. We come out, look at the runs, the roof edge and the grade, and answer your questions, and the written proposal comes afterward. Cory D. described getting “a verbal summary of their recommendations which was immediately followed up in a written estimate by Dave.”
